Getting You to Work Easier, Faster, Cheaper
If you're working or living in Connecticut, you have several options to help you save money, reduce vehicle wear and tear and even gain extra time to read, work or simply sit back and relax when commuting to work, school or wherever you need to go. Instead of driving alone, you can carpool, vanpool or ride the bus or train.
These commute options offer you an array of choices and benefits:
Connecticut Commuter Services has teamed up with NuRide, the nation's first incentive-based ridematching network. Through the NuRide Network®, commuters can arrange ridesharing trips and earn rewards for every trip.
Easy Street®, a Connecticut commuter service, is a way to offer your employees the benefits of vanpooling without creating your own program. Easy Street® currently has over 300 routes transporting thousands of commuters daily who live or work in Connecticut to their jobs. The low-cost fares are per seat and ridership is month to month. Full fare rider benefits include emergency rides home as well as vacation and leave of absence discounts or rebates.
Bus Services (Bus Services Page)
State subsidized bus services offer a variety of local and express routes throughout most major metropolitan areas. From Commuter Connection shuttles that meet trains at many New Haven Line stations, to weekday commuter express buses and local bus service operating in many cities seven days a week, the extensive public transportation choices offer a range of options. Customers who ride often can take advantage of money-saving multi-ride tickets and passes.
Express Bus Services (www.cttransit.com/expressbusservice/)
For commuters working for Hartford area companies, commuter express bus service is a comfortable, hassle-free and affordable way to go with very few, if any stops along the way. There are 23 different routes in the Greater Hartford area, many serving convenient Park & Ride lots with free parking. Express service operates in peak hours from approximately 6-9am and 3-7pm on weekdays only, depending upon the route. Many morning and afternoon buses extend beyond downtown Hartford to serve the Asylum Hill and State Capitol areas. Eleven routes also provide an additional mid-day departure from downtown.
Regional Bus Services
There also are several regional and interregional bus services that carry passengers between different areas of the state:
I-BUS (www.ibusexpress.com)-an interstate connection operating seven days a week between the downtown business districts of Stamford and White Plains, NY.
Coastal Link (www.norwalktransit.com/coastal_link.htm)-an interregional connection providing local bus service seven days a week along Route 1 (Post Road) between Norwalk, Westport, Bridgeport and Milford. Coastal Link connects with CTTRANSIT Stamford at the Norwalk WHEELS hub, and with CTTRANSIT New Haven at the Westfield Connecticut Post in Milford.
Route 7 Link (www.norwalktransit.com/rt7link.htm)-an interregional connection providing weekday local bus service to employment sites along the Route 7 corridor between Norwalk, Wilton and Danbury. It connects with CTTRANSIT Stamford at the Norwalk WHEELS hub.
Shuttle Service
If trains and buses don't stop close to a worksite, Connecticut Commuter Service representatives can organize shuttle service allowing timely and dependable rail and bus connections. We also work with public transit providers to seek opportunities for improving existing service.
Trains
New Haven Line (www.mta.info/mnr)-The New Haven Line, operated by Metro-North, consists of the New Haven Main Line and the New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury Branch Lines. Service is provided 7 days a week.
Shore Line East (www.shorelineeast.com)-Connecticut's Shore Line East commuter rail service provides fast and easy commuter transportation between New London and New Haven seven days a week with Metro-North New Haven Line connections to destinations west of New Haven. Free parking is available at all Shore Line East stations (except New London and New Haven).
Shore Line East/New Haven Line Connections- Two daily morning and afternoon Shore Line East express trains travel round-trip from east of New Haven to Bridgeport and Stamford. Other Shore Line East trains can connect you with the New Haven Line for your trip to other points in Connecticut or New York.
